Fitness Key to Indy lights test

Brit can’t wait to get back on track

Dean Stoneman is aiming to take another step forward in his return to racing by undergoing a demanding fitness regime as he prepares for his forthcoming test with Andretti Autosport at the MSR Circuit in Houston 7th & 9th February.

The 21-year old, who has based himself in Las Vegas for the past two weeks, believes fitness will be vital as he aims to once again impress the leading Indy lights team.  “After taking a year off in 2011 I have had to start from scratch.   The treatment I received had reduced my lung capacity so it’s been a matter of working on stamina and strength.   I have been in the gym constantly since arriving in the US and I’m now really starting to feel fitter and stronger.” Stoneman joked; “The weather here is much better than in the UK right now, so it provides me with a great environment to train.”

The 2010 FIA F2 Champion is enjoying his time in the States and is hoping to build on his Indy Lights test debut at the end of last month at Firebird Arizona; when he managed 150 laps and finished off the test joint fastest.

The forthcoming test will provide the talented driver with a further indication on his chances of making a remarkable return to racing since overcoming cancer.  If the first test was anything to go by the signs are positive for a return to action for one of the UK’s most promising young drivers.
